· Arab media changed rapidly during the last decade.
· Ayish uses three paradigm to analyze arab media development: the modernization paradigm, the dependency paradigm, and the globalization paradigm.

· He divides the development of Arab television into three main periods:
o The first period is the formative phase (1954-1975).
o The second phase is that of national expansion (1976-1990).
o The third phase is the regional and global expansion (since 1990).
· He predicts two possible evolutions for Arab TV:
o the convergence trend that manifested itself in the "establishment of webcasting services for multiple broadcasters."
o The mergers trend, where Arab regimes will have to merge "multiple satellite television services into single super channels"
· The book comes up with many typologies:
o One based on patterns of political communication with 3 types: traditional government-controlled television, reformist government-controlled television, and liberal commercial television.
o A second typology based on the globalist pattern, the localist pattern, and the glocalist pattern.
o A third typology based on technological policy patterns: the pragmatist policy pattern and the formalist one.
